Shown above is a group of adventurous hikers near the summit of Volcan de Acatenango overlooking the 12,346 ft (3,763 m) Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala. This highly active stratovolcano has been erupting with some regularity for several months. These are minor explosions with ejection of small amounts of incandescent material and plumes of less than 0.6 mi (1 km). Plumes from major eruptions have reached altitudes of over 35,000 ft (about 10,000 m). The last such eruption occurred in 1974. Photo taken on January 18, 2015.
