Shown above is a meteor streak, seemingly coming from the North Star, pointing the way to the soft glow of an aurora observed over northern Michigan on August 10, 2015. This breathtaking fireball, from the annual Perseid Meteor Shower, lasted a full 4 seconds before burning out. The asterism of the Big Dipper is conspicuous at top center. Photo taken at 11:16 p.m. Click here to see video from John Chumack of Perseid meteors over Dayton, Ohio on August 10/11, 2015.
