Multiple Lightning Strikes Near Big Water, Utah
November 17, 2015
The four lightning bolts shown above remarkably struck the ground at the same instant during a strong thunderstorm a few weeks ago in southern Utah. An inflow of rich, low-level moisture enhanced by upper atmosphere support produced torrential rains accompanied by an amazing lightning display. The runoff from these storms topped Highway 89 in southern Utah, pushing vehicles off of the highway (photo at left), and causing massive damage to a campground in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Luckily nobody was seriously injured. Photo taken on October 5, 2015.
