Salt mine spain

Shown above is a salt mine at Cardona Salt Mountain located a few hours drive north of Barcelona, in the Pyrenees Mountains near Cardona, Spain. This mine, open to the public, is covered with evaporites (white substance) that date from the Triassic period. These evaporites are a decollement surface, marking the position of a detachment fault where crustal deformation caused separation between crystalline basement rocks and overlying sedimentary rocks.
