Lightning Display Above the Ionian Sea
August 18, 2016
Shown above is a composite, time-lapse photo of an eye-catching lightning display that resulted from a storm passing north of Corfu, Greece, on the night of August 7, 2016. This view was taken from a beach overlooking the Ionian Sea. Most all of the flashes I observed during this storm were cloud-to-ground. Though these bolts appear to be single flashes, in actuality each stroke is made up of multiple discharges lasting approximately 1/1000 of a second.
Photo Details: Composite of 7 photos exposed, on average, about 48 seconds.
