The photo above was taken from Mount Whitney's 14,505 ft (4,421 m) summit, the highest peak in the Sierra Nevada Range of California, and in fact, the highest point in the contiguous United States. This view looks north along the jagged granite crest of the Sierras and includes many other 14,000 ft (4,250 m) summits including Mount Williamson and Mount Russell. Further towards the horizon are Split Mountain, North Palisade and White Mountain Peak. Also visible is the Owens Valley, at right, some 10,000 ft (3,048 m) below. The Inyo and White Mountains form the eastern boundary of the valley, on the horizon at right. Photo taken on June 25, 2014.
