The photo above shows the Defiance monocline, on the Colorado Plateau, near Hunters Point in far northeastern Arizona. This folded structure is a classic example of a monocline. Defiance monocline belongs to the Moenkopi formation and is composed chiefly of De Chelly sandstone and Shinarump conglomerate. These sedimentary strata have been deformed over the eons by movement along steeply dipping faults. Photo taken on November 26, 2016.
