Shown above is fog rising from what seems to be an ice covered body of water near Suomenlinna, Finland. In fact, the sea was frozen only along the shore. This sea smoke formed when Arctic air moved across the relatively warm, open water away from shore. As the air layer just above the water surface cooled to the dew point, the water vapor condensed, creating the foggy seascape. Photo taken on January 6, 2017.
