Shown above is a fog bank cascading over the Santa Monica Mountains into the Malibu Canyon of southern California. As southerly winds moved over the cool waters offshore, the normally warmer surface air in the vicinity of Malibu was replaced by the cooler, moister air of the marine layer. The result: the formation of a dense fog bank. It was very impressive to see this fog approach, crest the ridge top and then descend into the valley.
