This lightning photo may look at little odd since it's a rather rare capture showing an ascending lightning stroke atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It was taken during the late afternoon (5:42) on April 3. Standing 1,063 ft (324 m) tall, by far the highest point in Paris, the Eiffel Tower is frequently a target of lightning. Ascending discharges, though infrequently observed, seem to emanate upwards from tall buildings more often than from other tall objects.
Photo Details: Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera (lightning detector); EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM; ƒ/11.0; 100.0 mm; 1/40 sec exposure; 100 ISO; Software: Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 (Windows).
