Mont Granier stands 6,342 ft (1,933 m) high in the Savoie region of France. Its limestone composition is particularly prone to massive landslides, which have occurred with regularity over the last millennium. On these photos, the rather bright tracks of the most recent landslides (up to 2016) are visible on the north-west (top) and east (bottom) facing sides of the mountain.
The most destructive landslide occurred in 1248 and caused the formation of a nearly 3,000 ft (700 m) high cliff. This slide covered a number of villages with a thick layer of debris and resulted in an estimated 2,000 fatalities. Photos taken on June 19, 2018.
