The photo above showing a distant rain shaft was captured near Viterbo, Italy, on May 30, 2018. A torrent of rain falling beneath this approaching convective storm is clearly visible here. However, the storm's vertical structure is somewhat concealed by cloud layering in the mid-ground. Note that the wavy pattern extending across the center of the photo is perhaps related to asperitas type cloud formation.
