While in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, several weeks ago, I was walking along the waterfront trail by Beacon Hill Park, (elevation about 65 ft or 20 m) and noticed a strange looking ship in the Juan de Fuca Strait. The ship looked odd because it was miraged. Despite having only a 35mm lens, I managed to obtain some decent looking images of the ship as it changed shape due to a fairly strong Fata Morgana. The cropped images above span a time of approximately 30 minutes from about 4:00 p.m. as we walked west on the trail. Fata Morgana displays are always far away and often go unnoticed. In the background note a layer of fog that we had to go through on the ferry M. V. Coho from Port Angeles to Victoria. Photos taken on August 5, 2018.
