Bondi Beach near Sydney, Australia is one of the most well known beaches in the Southern Hemisphere, and it was the site of the Olympic volleyball competition last year. As you can see in the photo above, it's basically an urban beach. Not only does is it have wide stretches of sand, but it routinely receives some pretty impressive waves from the Pacific - big enough waves to keep the surfers interested. The photo above was taken in early July - mid winter in Australia. Even at this time of year, it's a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
