The above fiery red aurora was photographed on Saturday the 28th of October by Dominic Cantin from near his home in Quebec City, Quebec. This incredible display of the northern lights lasted for 5 hours! Note that close to the horizon, the aurora is tinged with green. The northern lights have been especially beautiful this autumn. Not only are we at the peak of the 11-year solar cycle (solar maximum), but clear weather the last few weeks, in many parts of the northern US and southern Canada, has afforded persistent viewers with a number of nights when the sky is ablaze with color.
