This remarkable icicle photo was taken with a 4X macro lens. Like minutes running out on the current year, this dangling piece of ice is slowly but surely melting, yielding to a thaw one drop at a time. The falling liquid sphere, bright against the dark background of a tree, not only mirrors the seasonal cycle of our planet but also acts as a near-perfect lens that images the Earth and sky beyond, revealing the cosmos in a but a bead of water.
