The lightning photo above was taken late on a summer's night in Westhofen, Germany. The thunderstorm cell responsible for the lightning activity was rather small, but it nevertheless produced several powerful cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. No rain was falling at the time. Evidently since this strike was ouside of the rain shield, its color is especially clear and bluish/white in appearance. It's estimated that the lightning was about 3 km (2 miles) distant. The photo was taken with a Casio QV-4000 Digital Camera.
