The foreground of the above photo shows the typically hummocky surface associated with glacial kame and kettle topography. It was taken in the western Finger Lakes portion of the Valley Heads Moraine. This glacial moraine acted as a dam to pre-glacial south-flowing rivers, which resulted in the formation of the Finger Lakes. The background hills are part of the dissected Allegany Plateau.
