The above photo was taken this past August, at sunset, near Lake Havasu, Arizona. The triangular or wedge-shaped appearance of the dark feature at center is indicative of crepuscular rays. Note that higher clouds and a patch of blue sky can be seen through the shadow. Evidently, a cloud mass just below the horizon is blocking sunlight, resulting in this intriguing dark ray.
