The map above shows the Northern Hemisphere's snow and ice cover as of December 18. For the most part, the snow extent is about where and what it should be at this time of year. If you live in Russia, central Asia, most of Scandinavia, Canada, Alaska, or the northern U.S., you're pretty much guaranteed that there will be a veneer of white covering the ground on Christmas Day. Most of the rest of us will have to be content, or perhaps prefer, to just dream about a White Christmas.
