Frost Differences in Yard

Although on the above photo, frost covers all of the grassy part of this lawn, the walkway and garden are mostly frost free. Notice the condensation on the edges, but not the main body, of the concrete walk. The concrete took longer to cool than the surrounding grassy, mulched and weedy areas. On the edges, the adjacent soil was cooler and had vastly different heat properties than air, so the edgeward concrete was cooled below the dew point temperature. Photo was taken in central Oklahoma on the last day of December 2003.
