Venus goes through phases too. In April and May, Venus rapidly gained on the Earth and will soon overtake us on the faster inside track. As it passes between us and the Sun, its apparent size grows and its illuminated portion appears to shrink. These four photographs, all taken during the month of April 2004, show this change dramatically. This morning (June 8), Venus reaches inferior conjunction, and for the first time in 122 years, as seen from Earth, it'll transit (cross) the Sun's face.
