This striking photo was captured at sunset on July 15, 2004, looking south from my home in Las Vegas, Nevada. In mid July, the monsoon season of the desert southwest was in its incipient stages, and western wildfires (in Nevada and Arizona) were still burning. In combination, these two factors (more numerous clouds at different levels and more numerous aerosols) produced a number of spectacular red sunsets vistas over the Las Vegas Valley - sunsets that easily eclipsed the man-made light shows of the famous Las Vegas Strip!
