The photo above shows the compound trace fossil, Arthrophycus, in the Redwall Limestone of the Grand Canyon, Arizona. This trace fossil is somewhat of an enigma to ichnologists, as the traces could have been left by multiple organisms of the same or different species. Many believe that this trace is a burrow that may be indicative of an arthropod, like a trilobite, for example.
