This photo showing a turbitic rock was taken at Pt. Lobos on the Monterey Peninsula in California. The layered bedding is a result of erosion along the California coast, punctuated by mass wasting events when landslides or floods deposited huge amounts of material into the ocean. Unequal settling of the sedimentary material created the distinctive layering of this turbidite.
