Pictured above is Authur's Seat (at left), an extinct volcano that dominates the skyline of Edinburgh, Scotland. Arthur's Seat rises to 823 feet (250 m) above sea level. My wife (Valerie) is in the foreground. We had just hiked to the Salisbury Crags, which overlook the city of Edinburgh. The crags are basalt cliffs that jut up from the road just outside the city. Just a little further to the left of this picture is the Firth of Forth -- a popular hiking destination offering the best view of the capital of Scotland.
