This eye-catching sunset was captured on February 27, 2005, around 5:30 p/m. (Eastern Standard Time) from Bradenton, Florida. The view is looking west toward the Gulf of Mexico. A cold front had passed through earlier, and the weather changed significantly as the day wore on. These interesting cirrus formations stretching nearly all the way across the sky, above the scattered cumulus clouds, made for a most memorable sunset. If the sky is streaked with high altitude cirrus clouds or mid altitude alto type clouds when the Sun is close to the horizon, we're often rewarded with breathtaking sunsets or sunrises.
