This gorgeous sunset photo was taken from Las Vegas, Nevada on May 20, 2005. Even the shows and bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip pale in comparison to this phenomenal twilight theatre. The intriguing centerpiece of this photo, the vortex-like altostratus cloud, was positioned right over the buildings of the Strip, as if to threaten some of the more seamier elements of Vegas. The greater path-length of sunlight when the Sun is very near or below the horizon accounts for the gold, orange and scarlet colors of the altostratus clouds.
