The above photo showing a sultry sunset was taken from the deck of a cruise ship while docked in Key West, Florida on the evening on June 6, 2005. The greater path-length of sunlight when the Sun is close to the horizon (longer wavelengths) accounts for the yellow and gold sky. In addtion to the golden colors, water reflections and virga (rainfall that evaporates before reaching the ground), which can be seen falling from the clouds, act to enhance the beauty of this tropical scene.
