Children often draw the Sun as a circle with rays emanating from it. Sometimes, the Sun sets just so -- with the help of the atmosphere to scatter sunlight and clouds to cast intermittent shadows. The shadows are most often created by clouds but can also be caused by mountain peaks blocking the Sun. This Memorial Day sunset (taken on May 30, 2005), observed from Inwood, New York, treated us all to a breathtaking twilight.
