Just as the brilliant Moon rose over the mountain range in the background I captured this photo (taken on August 18, 2005) showing anticrepuscular rays streaking above the eastern horizon. The rays originated 180 degrees opposite the Sun, which had set about 15 minutes earlier. Note that the nearly full Moon is rising just to the right of the convergence point of the anticrepuscular rays -- the full Moon would have been closer to this focal point. The mountain from which the rays appear to originate is Black Mountain, and the buildings in the foreground belong to The District, a retail center adjacent to Green Valley Ranch Hotel and Casino in Henderson, Nevada.
