The photo above showing a stunning sunset pillar was captured above Brampton, Ontario, Canada on December 8, 2005. Pillars such as this fine example typically result when sunlight reflects off the bottom faces of oriented hexagonal plate-shaped ice crystals. Because pillars are reflection phenomenon, they mimic the Sun's color.
