The scene above of a beautiful desert bouquet was photographed on April 7, 2006. An unusual winter of late rainfalls delayed the blooming of California poppies at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Preserve, but on the south-facing slopes of the nearby mountains, the poppies were in full bloom. Sagebrush, low hanging clouds and the hills in the background nicely accent this orange and gold desert meadow.
