This photo shows iron pyrite cubes in slate as observed on Esdale Island in Scotland. Shores along this small isle contain many fine examples of slates, which typically show heavy deformation. Most of the pyrite crystals are small, on the order of 2 - 5 mm, however, the ones shown above are about 12 mm. The dry-stone walls so typical of Northern Britain are of interest to rock hounds as they're often a display case for the local geology.
