The photo above showing a sky filled with imposing cloud to ground lightning was taken near Bad Mergentheim, in southern Germany, during a severe, nighttime thunderstorm. At the height of the storm, lightning and thunder were separated by only milliseconds. The jarring and powerful lightning bolts ruined by computer "notebook" because of the excessive voltage, and the reverberating sound waves were deafening.
Photo details: Canon EOS 20D camera, exposure time was 9 seconds, ISO speed of 200, focal length = 18 mm at /3.5. The day of the storm was July 5, 2006, and the time of the photo was approximately 22:00 (UT).
