These snow rollers were seen west of Paul, Idaho (southeastern Idaho) on Christmas Eve. They only lasted one day, were very light and fluffy and would fall apart upon touching. If there happens to be just enough moisture on the surface of the ground during a snowfall that has a low moisture content (dry snow), and a strong wind kicks up, a snow roller may result. In essence, the surface moisture provides sufficient stickiness to keep the wind blown snow intact.
