I'm a thirty year resident of South Lake Tahoe, California, and this fire was, by far, the worst natural disaster that has hit the Tahoe area while I've lived here. The loss of over two hundred homes was just sickening. The beautiful forest is gone forever (my life time, at least). It's ironic that the gas station is advertising the sale of park permits with a raging inferno in its backyard! (Click on photo to enlarge for detail.)
