Most people wouldn't think to vacation in eastern Nevada, but you can find air as cool as any Las Vegas casino in the Caves sections of Cathedral Gorge State Park. The Caves aren't true caves but rather narrow canyons eroded from a Pliocene Epoch lake bed. You'll notice a significant temperature difference between the shady caves and the desert surface -- a pleasant respite from the heat of a simmering Nevada summer. While the caves and tall spires are a long drive from the sparkle of Las Vegas, Cathedral Gorge is well worth a visit. Photo taken in May of 2006.
