Summary Author: Kay Meyer

The impressive glitter shown at left stretched in an almost solid glare from Long Beach, California to Catalina Island, in the background -- a distance from shore-to-shore of 26 miles (42 km). The close-up photo on the right shows that the glitter is actually composed of a multitude of nearly perfect reflections of the Sun glinting off small waves. Sun glitter can be used in determining how rough the sea is; more glitter generally equates to rougher seas. Photo taken on January 19, 2008.
