Now this is the way to end the day! These anticrepuscular rays were observed at sunset near Gillette, Wyoming in late June of 2007. The camera is looking to the east at sunset. If towering clouds are positioned near the horizon when the Sun is low in the sky or even if the Sun is beneath the horizon, and if the geometry is right, anticrepuscular rays may be found opposite of the Sun at sundown or sunup. The bright lanes are places where sunlight filters through gaps in the clouds. Photo taken at 8:45 p.m.
