The photo above shows a reflection of the setting Sun on Mount Blanc, France. It was taken from Carre-d'Amont, Switzerland (Geneva, Switzerland) on January 8, 2005. Alpenglow occurs when sunlight is scattered in mountainous areas at sunset or sunrise. Loftier mountain peaks retain the glow of the setting Sun a little longer than do areas of more subtle topography. Mont Blanc (15,771 feet or 4,807 m), located along the French-Italian-Swiss borders, is one of the tallest peaks in Europe.
