The photo above showing Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park, California was taken on the night of May 20, 2008. The waning gibbous Moon was up just high enough to light the tops of the rocks around the falls. Mountain glaciers were responsible for producing much of the spectacular scenery in Yosemite. Most of Yosemite is comprised of plutonic igneous rocks -- rocks that formed deep beneath the surface as molten material cooled and solidified.

Photo details: CANON XTI camera; 8 mm fisheye lens; exposure time 60 seconds, f/3.5, ISO 800.
