The photo above shows a mirage in the Wadi Rayan Natural Protectorate in Faiyum, Egypt. I was on a trip to observe the birds of the Faiyum area and happened to notice this island in the desert. It's a mirage of a distant hill. This is an inferior mirage, where distant objects are refracted or bent upwards by the high heat of the desert surface. Photo taken on July 24, 2008.
