The photo above showing a simmering Mt. Semeru was snapped from Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park in East Java, Indonesia. This view was taken from the rim of the Mt. Bromo caldera looking West towards Mt. Semeru. Bromo-Tengger-Semuru is one of my favorite photo locales in the world. Being able to observe the ash plumes on Mt. Semeru, the highest mountain on the island of Java at 12,060 ft (3,676 m) illuminated by the rising Sun was an especially rewarding experience. This massive stratovolcano has erupted 55 times since 1818 and spews out ash and steam on a regular basis. Nevertheless, it's a favorite climb for many tourists visiting the park. Photo taken on June 3, 2010.
