The photo above showing a persimmon colored Moon linking the spires of Ottobeuren Abbey  in Ottobeuren, Bavaria, Germany was captured on June 26, 2010. This full Moon, sometimes referred to as the full Strawberry Moon, was the most southern full moonrise of the year. It owes its coloration to its nearness to the horizon. The increased path-length of the Sun's rays when it's low in the sky essentially extinguishes the shorter wavelengths (green, blue and violet colors) of the visible potion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
