The photo above showing a ghastly reishi mushroom (Ganoderma tsugae) amidst a stand of spruce trees was captured in the Harz Mountains of Germany. This bracket fungus typically grows in coniferous forests in Europe, Asia and North America. It's revered for its medicinal benefits In parts of eastern Asia, particularly in China, where it's been used in traditional medicine for more than 2,000 years. Photo taken on August 21, 2011.
