On the morning of November 14, 2012, excited sky watchers on Green Island in Queensland, Australia, gathered on a large piece of driftwood to observe a total eclipse of the Sun. The Moon's umbral shadow oddly darkened the island making it seem like dusk although the Sun had been up for nearly an hour. Because of perspective, the shadow appeared somewhat skewed as it fell obliquely onto the atmosphere from above. Note the Sun's corona extending outward from the eclipsed solar disk. Venus is visible near the top of the frame.
