The photo above shows a column of ice and its curious reflection on a quiet pool beneath Dundee Falls, Ohio. An icy stalactite, descending from the rock ledge, had begun to spread out on the water's surface, but as the stream level dropped the little ice shelf was left suspended slightly above the pool. Buckeye (Aesculus) leaves, retaining their fall colors, were carried downstream and incorporated into the palette-shaped shelf of ice. Photo taken on February 15, 2013.
