The photo above showing a partially buried bottle with a healthy looking plant inside was taken at Banks Lake, Washington. Banks Lake, located between Grand Coulee Dam and Coulee City, was lowered 35 ft (11 m) to permit maintenance on the release gates after the end of irrigation season in late 2011. This allowed for the exploration of beaches, roads, and other features normally covered by quite a bit of water. As I was wandering around, I came across this bottle. I have no idea when it came to rest in this position, but it's evidently been in this spot for some time because it was nearly fully encased in dried mud. I'm unsure of the species of aquatic plant growing inside -- I chose not to disturb the bottle. It's now covered by water once again. Photo taken on October 13, 2011.
