The photo above shows why it's a bonus to rise with the Sun. These impressive crepuscular rays were captured as the Sun was rising over the Atlantic Ocean, observed from Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida. Altocumulus clouds are beautifully lit here by the low-lying Sun, but it's not these clouds that are responsible for the wedge-shaped shadows. Rather they result from clouds having a vertical structure; likely towering cumulus just beyond the horizon. Photo taken at 7:20 a.m. on March 22, 2014.
